Signs your garage roof may contain asbestos.

Asbestos cement roofing was widely used on garages built or roofed before 2000. A few things to look out for:

Corrugated, grey cement sheets

A ridged, wavy profile with a flat grey or weathered white finish — not modern coloured roof sheeting.

Roof installed before 2000

Asbestos cement sheeting was commonly used until it was banned in the UK in 1999. Older garages are far more likely to have it.

Visible wear, moss or flaking

Ageing asbestos cement sheets can become brittle, chalky, or start to break down at the edges over time.

Asbestos roof questions, answered.

Is it dangerous to have an asbestos garage roof?

Asbestos cement sheeting is generally low-risk while it's intact and undisturbed. The risk increases if it's damaged, drilled, cut, or starts to break down with age. If you're planning any work near the roof, or it's visibly deteriorating, it's worth having it assessed.

Can I remove it myself?

Non-licensed asbestos cement work can legally be done without a specialist licence, but it still needs to be handled correctly to avoid releasing fibres, and disposed of through a licensed waste carrier. We handle the whole process so you don't have to.

What happens to the asbestos waste?

It's double-bagged, sealed, and taken to a licensed waste transfer facility. You'll receive a Waste Transfer Note confirming this for your records.

Will I need to leave the property while the work is done?

No. Our removal process is designed to control dust and fibres at the source, so there's no need to vacate the property. We do ask that pets and children stay clear of the immediate work area while we're on the roof.
